Tarnished Coin (Miscellaneous Magic Items):

This is a magic item that is fairly common although not common enough that it is commonly suspected. Wealthy individuals trying to hide their wealth will often use these items.

It is a simple appearing coin which appears to be badly tarnished. When it is put into a pile of coins or with other precious objects or materials (gems as well), the item creates an illusion over the horde which makes it appear that the coins are fools gold or otherwise fake, gems are paste, jewelry will appear poorly plated, and otherwise the treasure looks worthless. This makes the items far less likely to be stolen.

To resist the enchantment, an observer needs to save against ritual magic. At Game Masters Option, a saving throw can only be permitted if somebody suspects that there is an illusion on the objects.
