Bows of Heim “Lesser” (Lesser Holy Bows):
Best known of the goddesses of the wilderness, Heim is worshiped by many who live in the wilderness including rangers. No shrinking violet, along with the God Cirga, she is one of the chief deities of archers. Often she is pictured with a bow. Her priests and priestesses are all expected to learn the bow themselves.
It is well known that a number of holy bows have been made dedicated to her and blessed by her. There are a handful of greater holy bows but most of the holy bows dedicated to her are lesser weapons. It is believed by many scholars that there are at least a couple of dozen holy bows of hers. It is hard to know for sure because the temple keeps many hidden away in their temples.
The bows themselves are believed to be crafted by the priests and priestesses of the temple who the goddess then blesses the bow. Some believe that she only blesses the absolute best bows they make. Perhaps only the finest bows are made into greater weapons. Nobody outside the temples knows for sure.
Often these bows are seen in the hands of a priest or priestess outside the temples when one is of on their own quest or adventure. Still, the bows can be found in the hands of others on occasion. One will sometimes be given to somebody who does a great service, in some cases to the temple itself while on other occasions to something related to nature itself. The vast majority of these have been worshipers of Heim themselves with many being either rangers or long bowmen.
It is believed that these bows have been lost with a tiny handful never having been found. This has happened when a possessor has been killed in an ambush or in battle. Other cases are when the previous owner passes on, either having the bow remain in the family or not really having somebody to give the bow. The temples try to keep track of the bows blessed by Heim and retrieve them when they wind up in the hands of one who is considered to profane the weapons. Even though the greater weapons are considered most important, it does not mean that the lesser weapons are not considered important as well.
It is believed that no two bows are identical although they are all similar in style. There is no easy way to tell lesser from greater holy bow. They are all either fashioned as bow long bows and short bows. No crossbows are known to have been blessed by Heim. It is believed that the weapon is considered just too mechanical for her with the goddess disdaining other elements of technology. The bows are all of incredible workmanship and are incredibly accurate and long ranged. Each bow, long or short bow, is engraved with the designs of leaves and vines winding around the bow. Base wood of the bow is pale brown with the leaves of being light green while the vines being a darker green. In addition to the appearance of the bows being incredibly attractive, the pattern also makes the bows well camouflaged.
Both the lesser and greater varieties of these weapons are considered extremely valued for their abilities. They are some of the most accurate bows made in the Palladium world. These bows are considered extremely deadly, inflict far more damage than any non enchanted weapon. Against supernatural creatures, they are considered especially effective. When the bow is fired, an arrow has a green glow around it, the same glow as when one detects magic on the bow itself. Finally, over the course of seventy two hours, the blessed bow will adjust to the strength of the possessor. If the Bow of Heim is not possessed by anyone, it will adjust so it is usable by those of average strength.
