Hi-Point C-9 [Automatic Pistol]:
Hi-Point manufactures a whole range of very cheap pistols and rifles. Their pistols use a rather heavy slide to achieve simple blowback operation in fully powered calibres that would usually require a locked breech. While these firearms are disliked and derided by many, they do shoot and they do kill.
Because of the firearms low price, they quite frequently turn up in the hands of criminals, as they often like to discard a firearm after a crime has been comitted with it, so the low price is even more of an incentive to them than regular buyers.
While the ergonomics are not very good, and the trigger requires a strong pull and creeps somewhat, the blowback operations is actually conductive to accuracy, as the barrel does not move. The weapon is also relatively reliable. They are also rated for +P ammunition.
The slide and bolt are made from a zinc alloy called zalmak. It is used to cheaply add the weight required for the blowback operation. They are reinforced with steel inserts and and a steel breech, chamber and barrel. Because of the design, the C-9 is very clunky and heavy pistol.
There are very similar pistols manufactured by Hi-Point in the .40 S&W, .45 ACP and .380 ACP calibers.
The pistol is available with eight, ten, and fifteen round magazines.
