Torpedo Launched Missiles:


Designed to deal with relatively low flying threats, weapon system is a torpedo body which encloses four short range missiles. The torpedo is basically fired as normal but floats to the surface where it is able to fire its missiles. Weapon system is limited to 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes or larger.


The casing has a number of short range senors to detect nearby flying targets. Sensor systems include motion sensors as well as infrared / thermal sensors. Range of sensor systems is limited to around two miles. Normal targets include anti-submarine aircraft and low flying power armors.


A variety of criteria can be programmed into the system. It can be programmed to launch missiles immediately on reaching the surface and detecting a target. The most common programming of the system and the default setting, this is often done when the submarine is under threat by submarine hunters. A second option is to program the system to fire the missile with a delay. This might be done so that the submarine can get out of the area and may also act as something akin to a minefield. Different threats can also be programmed into the system. It might only be programmed to engage flying power armors or a certain class of aircraft.


While the missiles can be launched one at a time or in volleys of two missiles as well, the default setting is for all four short range missiles to be fired simultaneously. In addition, while all types of short range missiles can be carried, frequently high speed air intercept missiles are carried. They give up warhead size in order to have a much higher speed.


Maximum Effective Range: Varies by short range missile type (See revised bomb and missile tables for details - SAM style missiles frequently carried.)

Mega-Damage: Varies by short range missile type (See revised bomb and missile tables for details - SAM style missiles frequently carried.)

Rate of Fire: Can fire short range missiles one at a time or in volleys of two (2) or four (4) short range missiles. Almost always fires all four short range missiles simultaneously.

Payload: Four (4) short range missiles.

Notes: Has motion and infrared sensors with a 2 mile (3.2 km) range. Limited to 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes or larger.
