Optional E-Clip Rules:
In the times of the Rifts, E-Clips are pretty standard. Weapons around the world use similar E-Clips with this standardization starting before the coming of the Rifts. A similar situation existed with batteries since they were virtually introduced with batteries being standardized in a few different sizes. In a similar manner, many combat rifles were designed to carry magazines based off those carried by the M-16.
E-clips are either batteries or are high efficiency capacitors. The author tends to consider them to be capacitors but their could be either without effecting them within game rules. The problem is that the ratio between the amount of shots in E-clips based on their size is different with different weapons. They should be the same because they contain a specific amount of energy although the damage may not always follow due to how efficient the weapons.
There are examples where a short e-clip has 10 shots and long clips have 20 shots while there other examples are having a short e-clip having 20 shots and long e-clips having 30 shots. There is an other example where a short e-clip has ten shots where a canister has 50 shots. When compared to some other weapons, they have 20 shots in a short e-clip while they have 30 shots in the canister. There is yet another where the short has 21 shots, 30 on a long e-clip, and 60 in an e-clip canister.
The option rule which the author has developed is to covert all weapons from having a number of shots per E-Clip to having a set number of charges and that different weapons use a number of charges per shot based on their efficiency and how much damage their inflict. To calculate this, assume that all “Short” E-Clips have 100 charges, all “Long” E-Clips have 200 charges, and all “Canister” E-Clips have 300 charges. FSE Clips from Triax are assumed to have 250 charges. Backpack Canisters are assumed to have 600 charges. Retain the number of shots with special e-clips for weapons such as the Wilk’s-Remi 104 Derringer. Also, keep number of shots the same for weapons which have internal batteries. Do not covert these weapons unless needed.
Each weapon burns a number of charges based on the number of charges based on the number of shots the weapon has using a short E-Clips. The basic is simply to take the number of shots listed and divide that into 100 and round to the nearest whole number. A few weapons have listing using either long e-clips or E-clip canisters. In those cases, use 300 when dividing the weapons number of shots into. In some cases, this may cause a could of shots to be gained or lost. The numbers can also be rounded to easier to use numbers as desired. Simply multiply number of charges used for bursts. Three shot bursts use Three times the number of charges, short bursts will use four times the charges, long bursts will use ten times the charges, and extended bursts will use twenty times the normal charges. See revised firearm rules for details. A table is provide to make conversion easier. This system has several advantages compared to the standard system in addition to keeping the number of charges consistent. This is that an E-Clip can be used on multiple weapons with the number of charges being relatively easy to keep track of.
