Disposition:

As with many Turbo-Jockeys, she is pretty wild and cocky. In fact, she is close to fearless. Loves flying and space in general with a passion few equal. Interestingly, she prefers heavy fighters over smaller fighters partially due to their ability to simply take more abuse.

In many ways she does not fit in with her race. Most of her race prefers close combat, something she never really cared much for. They generally glory in battle while she feels satisfaction in simply being the best of the best. She is also far more of a team player than many other Tiger-kin are. While there are those of her race who love space, they are a rarity.

Pretty social generally and good at disarming those who she might intimidate with her cockiness. Does not like Wolfen generally but can get along with them and will not pick a fight with them. Having been around races other than her own almost exclusively, is a little uncomfortable with others of her race. Otherwise, friends are extremely important to her.

Interestingly, she sees nothing wrong in taking a human as a lover. This has caused some problems with some who look at it in askance. Her own race is likely to look at the relationship in a similar way and she is a bit concerned about her family’s reaction. Her friends though generally are pretty accepting of her relationship.

Appearance:

Easy way to describe her as a humanoid tiger. In height, she is just under 1.7 meters in height and is quite slender. Many members of her race are quite a bit more muscular even though she is quite strong compared to most humans. Her race generally has a heavier muscle density than humans. Otherwise, she is quite athletic and has a body that most humans will admire. Of course, it is covered by short fur. Her fur is reddish orange with black stripes. Her belly, inner parts of her legs and arms, tip of her tail, and under her muzzle are an off white in color.

Her face is more tiger like than human like with a squashed face compared to actual tigers with large eyes and her ears towards the top of her head. Does keep a mane of hair in almost human fashion. When it hangs lose, it hangs almost down to her lower back. As is common with her race, her eyes are yellow

As far as dress, she does often wear uniforms and jumpsuits. Otherwise, she likes to wear clothing that does she off her body. Kind of believes to some extent that if you got it, you should flaunt it. Often wears clothing that do not cover her abdomen.

Background:

There are a number of races which appear to be derived from animal species from the same mythic home world as humans. Usually, their genetic material has been somehow merged with human genetic material and are biped in a similar manner to humans. While sometimes called mutant animals, it might be better to call them animal-human hybrid races. Most famous of these are the Wolfen which some suggest were changed eons ago by magic.

Star Tiger’s race is similar in that her race appears to be that of an amalgam of tiger and human genetic materials. Due to certain markers in the race’s genetic code and signs of cleanup within the junk DNA, it is most likely that her race was created through technological not magical means. Various suggestions have been brought forth to whom might have done this genetic engineering. Most likely, it will never been known.

Name from her race do not translate well into human languages with many simply unpronounceable words. As a result, most of the words used are human language words. When her race was first discovered, it was give the name of Tiger-kin. Not imaginative but it seems to have stuck.

The Tiger-kin home world, called Tijakaa, is in a yellow dwarf star system near the fringes of Consortium controlled space. Interestingly, the system is close to what is believed to be a comparative dead zone with comparative few systems which would support advance life. As a result, the area of space did not initially muster much interest by the various powers in the Three Galaxies.

Comparatively primitive when the Consortium first discovered the Tiger-kin, they were at a technological level similar to Earth in the mid part of the Twenty-First Century. They had comparatively recently developed fusion power and were just colonizing their own star system. Still, the race was pretty warlike. While the race had mostly channeled this, there were always simmering tensions and that is always a concern when they involve nuclear weapons.

The one item that made the Consortium decide to make contact however was that their space program was preparing to send a mission off to a nearby star. This mission would have been slower than light and taken several decades to reach the system. It so happened that this star had been settled mostly by human colonists from the Consortium just a few decades before, already had a thriving population of several million, and was considered under Consortium protection.

As usual, these contacts are stressful affair for everybody involved. After a long period of discussion, it was decided that Tijakaa would become a protectorate of the Consortium. It would give the system protection against other potentially hostile powers and stop opportunism as well. Having hostile powers in that area might have required a reposition of military forces within the Consortium.

These agreements allow limited trading with other Consortium members, travel, and access to off world education as well. In a handful of cases, Tiger-Kin have been allowed to also join the Coalition armed forces. Each one has to petition individually and are generally exceptional individual. Most so far have joined the Consortium ground forces, many relishing hand to hand combat.

From an early age, Star Tiger wanted to be a starfighter pilot. Her family had been involved heavily in the space program before contact with the Consortium and they were already involved in the fledgling planetary merchant fleet. They were among some of the first members of the Tiger-kin to own interstellar capable vessels.

As a young girl, she loved to fly simulators even got a chance to fly a starfighter trainer. She was always good in hand to hand combat but did not have the relish than much of her race does. As a result, just about as soon as she was old enough, she applied for the Consortium navy even though the embassy was a bit taken aback by it. There are fighter pilots tied to ground forces but she always wanted to soar among the stars.

As one might expect, those applying for the Consortium military forces are subjected to an incredible battery of tests. This is even more true for those applying to the military academy and she was applying to be a fighter pilot. In some cases, member of the Tiger-Kin also do not work too well with other races especially the Wolfen. She though scored in something like the top one percent and her reflexes were simply off the chart.

During this battery of testing, it was found that she had a mutation. The reflexes were part of that but she also had incredible endurance and tough beyond measure. The initial needle they used to draw blood broke on her skin and they had to use a vibro-needle to penetrate her skin for testing. It made her able to withstand immense G-Forces as well. Most amazing though was her ability with machines. She could merge with them in a way akin to what a machine person might.

While surrounded by humans in the academy, she actually got along with most of them quite well. Her name is loosely “Siytalini” but it is really pretty much unpronounceable by humans. The other students gave her the nickname of “Tiger” and the name caught on with the instructors as well. A few of her closer friends began calling her “Kitty.” Some members of her race hate being called those names but never really bothered her. In fact, she first took on the call sign of “Star Tiger” at this time.

She might have been adopted as the schools mascot but she beat the pants off all of the other students in flight training. There had been problems with some of her race being “lone wolf” kinds and she was closely watched. In fact though, she worked quite well with others and several times rescued her wingman in training when he or she was in trouble.

Some of the students were resentful of her incredible skill but her friendly nature allowed her to keep it pretty low key. Was a bit of a show off though and received a pretty incredible number of demerits although never for anything truly serious. As a result, she actually scored only second in her class for her total grade although her piloting performance has never been beaten. Still managed to get the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade right out of training.

Her first assignment was on the Protector class battleship “Crusader” where she was assigned to the long range Proctor heavy fighter squadron. They were sent on an independent mission far from the battleship where they were ambushed. When the smoke cleared, they had managed to kill twelve fighters while losing only one of the six. Of the kills, Star Tiger managed to get five kills on her own, making her an instant ace.

Her next assignment was as a Black Eagle pilot, this time on the Warshield class cruiser “Ivanhoe.” With such a small fighter compliment, Warshield class cruisers often are give some of the best pilots. The captain was named Vell Rankin and she made friends with him such that it would continue long after they both left Consortium service.

While the Consortium is generally at peace, there have always been small skirmishes and she ended up in some pretty hot engagements over the next few years. There are pirates and there have been a number of altercations with the Trans-Galactic Empire. While the Empire always denies involvement, just about everybody in the fleet knows the reality of the situation. It was during this time she began considering some concepts for a new heavy fighter design that was eventually to become the Spitfire.

How long she might have stayed in the fleet it everything was not turned upside down is hard to know for sure. Her love of flying fighters was obvious, especially long range missions. While still sometimes a bit of a show off, in general she was liked by both her superiors and juniors alike.

An audit however discovered somebody had managed to hack into the Consortium military payroll computers and stole an immense fortune, hundreds of billions of credits in fact. It was argued that this should have been impossible due to safeguards. In the subsequent attempt to find those responsible, there was an unexplained deposit in her account of several billion credits.

It seemed and open and shut case and Star Tiger was convicted of stealing the payroll. She was stripped of all rank and incarcerated. By this time she had made full Lieutenant and it was suggested that she might soon be promoted to Commander Junior Grade. She was constantly questioned as to where the rest of the payroll had gone even though she knew nothing.

With her ability to merge with machines, she made the perfect patsy for the real hackers. She might very well have rotted in military prison for decades if they had not make mistakes. There were several financial institutions that were hacked into in almost an identical manner. A machine person who worked for one of the institutions was able to trace back the hacking to another group of machine people. Everything quickly fell apart after that and Star Tiger was exonerated.

She really tried to go back into the fleet but the comradery was gone, both from her and those she worked with. Eventually, she decided to take an early retirement. The Consortium navy gave her generous terms, rasing her rank to Commander Junior Grade and giving her full retirement pay and benefits. Thought about going home but did not feel that she would fit in.

Instead, she decided that she might wandered a bit. Tried a term or two with various mercenary companies. Never seemed to fit right for her however. She decided to purchase a stripped Proctor class heavy fighter and use it as a fast cargo ship. Would take on other jobs as well and slowly refitted the heavy fighter with its original weaponry although replaced the cruise missiles with long range missiles. This ended up lasting almost a full year.

Eventually she was contacted by Vell Rankin. He had also retired from Consortium service and had taken up the position of Governor of Xanadu Station. Needed somebody to head up an advanced starfighter pilot school and asked her. Getting a bit bored of her travels, she accepted with the provision that she would also be able to lead squadrons and fly independent missions once in a while.

Soon after arriving at Xanadu Station, she began discussing with the engineers about developing her heavy modular fighter idea. The resulting design was adopted first by Xanadu Station and later by New Coventry as well. Interestingly, the second prototype was actually given to her as a gift and became her personal fighter.

Not needing her Proctor anymore, she went ahead and sold the fighter. The fleet engineering training academy worked on repairing and refitting an old Human Alliance Tiger IV fighter as a pet project. When it was complete, they decided to give it to her as a gift. It has all of its weapons stripped but has an upgraded engine and military variable shielding.

As time has gone on, she has found that Vell has slowly changed and she has become nervous about what is going on. Doesn’t know what to do about her friend. At the same time, he own personal life has become more settled. She was assigned a human gunner for the starfighter’s tail guns. Over time, they have become lovers. Does not really see any problem with him being human and her being a Tiger-kin.
