Disposition:

As is common with fighter pilots. Rebecca loves challenge and risk. Loves to show off just how good a pilot she actually is as well. One should not consider her suicidal however and actually usually has a course of action in her mind before she commits herself. Does love flying generally and loves experimental designs.

She is an independent thinking, willing to think outside of the box when required. Also is extremely dedicated to getting a job done. Does understand duty and responsibility even if she can be wild at time. She is not much of one for military protocol which might make it hard for her to fit in with the Consortium or other more regimented military force. It is not much on an issue with the Free Worlds Council.

Rebecca loves her adopted father strongly and she is extremely protective of him, and he is protective of her as well. Otherwise, she is quite loyal to her friends in general. Not particularly interested in politics but does support the Free Worlds Council with regards to the Trans-Galactic Empire. While she dislikes the Trans-Galactic Empire and the Kreeghor, she does not have quite the hatred of them that her father does.

Rebecca’s History:

Nobody, including Rebecca herself, seems to know where she was born. It was estimated that she was around three years old when she was found. The young kit was found on the planet of Nelerial Prime in a back ally scavenging through the garbage. All she has is a few scattered memories of something which appears as if it might be something like an orphanage filled with mutant animals much like herself.

The planet is in a system between Consortium of Civilized Worlds and the Trans-Galactic Empire. There is little which distinguishes the system otherwise. Settled mainly by people trying to get away from the more populated and developed worlds, it has a systemwide population of less than one hundred million. There is a wide variety of races represented among the population.

The system’s economy is set up along libertarian lines which results in the social safety nets which exist in the Consortium not operating. Corruption is a fact of life in the government. In other ways, the system has never had much industrial capital and the system itself is not particularly resource rich. The economy is mostly supported through the system being a trade hub including some pretty wide scale smuggling. Those from the Consortium who have visited the planet consider it to be backward even compared to many other independent worlds. Many have commented that the medical care is particularly abysmal.

Even though the system is near the border of the Trans-Galactic Empire and involved in smuggling to its enemies, the Empire seems to have left it alone. There is speculation that the Empire prefers to be able to keep an eye on the smuggling through the system instead of the smuggling being unable to be monitored. It is also believed that the closest Imperial warlord uses the system for some smuggling. There is little in terms of system defense forces and the Empire could quickly overwhelm the system defenses.

It is believed that the Consortium of Civilized Worlds also keeps an eye on smuggling through the system. Due to the poor economy of the system as well as the extreme corruption, the Consortium has little interested in the system joining. Before the Consortium would even consider it, Nelerial Prime would need to vastly reform their government, something that is extremely unlikely.

As one might expect, one of the major customers for goods smuggled through the system is the Free Worlds Council. There is some argument just how significant smuggling through the system actually is. Still, it attracts is fair share of espionage.

The system has minimal children’s services, mostly run through private interests including some out of system charities. There are a number of orphanages but there are rates of mortality for orphans which would not be acceptable in the Consortium and other more civilized societies within the Three Galaxies.

As a result of being under private control, there are not the bureaucratic controls that one might expect. A nurse’s aide at an orphanage knew of a freighter captain who had comparatively recently lost his wife and child. It has been suggested that the Trans-Galactic Empire was somehow involved although it is unclear exactly how. The nurse’s aide however was able to talk him into adopting the young fox girl.

The captain goes by the name Rubin Paxton and many of his cargoes would be considered illegal. He was carrying a high priority cargo for the Free Worlds Council when he was traveling through the system. He immediately bonded with her and she immediately bonded with him as well. Adopting her also probably helped him heal from his losses and gave him somebody to care about.

She was a natural around the ship, learning to pilot the ship at an extremely young age. His ship was a fast runner and maneuvered more like a space fighter than a cargo vessel. He always tried to be the best father he could to his adopted daughter, never treating her like she was anything other than family. There are a wide variety of teaching materials available for starship use and he worked hard in educating her properly.

One item he did always keep as quietly as possible was the business side of things. She was aware that he was a smuggler but he kept it away from her as much as possible. Most of his cargos were materials important to the Free Worlds Council including various weapons. A small and fast ship like his was among the best to carry such cargos.

Even though he was careful, he ultimately ran into some bad luck. He was not caught by the Trans-Galactic Empire where he would have most likely been shot on sight but instead by a Consortium patrol. Aboard his ship was a load of illegal weapons which he had been transporting to the Free Worlds Council. His ship was seized and he was arrested.

As a crew member for her father, Rebecca was also at risk of being arrested and imprisoned. He agreed to not fight the charges in order to prevent her from being charged and argued that she did not know the nature of the cargo with her just thinking that it was various electronics. In the end he was given the full sentence of five years incarceration but was able to get so that she just got a warning.

No longer with her father, she had to look for other jobs. Because of her informal education and being tied to a smuggler, it was hard for her to find jobs on starships. Some were mundane jobs where she was not able to actually use her skills. Others turned out to be smugglers. She did not want to get arrested and this time incarcerated. During this time she also missed her father.

Eventually she found herself in the Free Worlds Council military as a fighter pilot. Became an expert on both the Flying Fang and Mosquito fighters. With her piloting skills, she was assigned to be a test pilot and got to test the new experimental version of the Free Worlds Council Flying Fang.

After a few years, she was asked if she could work on special missions for them. It would allow her an independence that serving in the Free Worlds Council military would not allow her. Officially though she was allowed to strike out on her own but allowed to keep her fighter.

Around this same time, her father was released from prison. On his release, he was contacted by Consortium Intelligence. They offered where they would offer interference against the Consortium military but he would work for Consortium Intelligence. His cargos would still be going to the Free Worlds Council but would be their runs. There have been a couple of times which Rebecca has escorted her father’s ship when involved in dangerous jobs.

Notes:

Most assume that Rebecca is either related to Kankoran or some kind of experiment by the Gene Splicers. In reality, Rebecca was a Coalition experiment using a fox instead of dog. The purpose behind the experiment was performed at Lone Star and they wanted a creature that was more independent than a dog boy but less independent than cats. The problem is that the experiment failed. The mutant foxes were even more independent than the mutant cats.

Rebecca was among the second batch and was ordered to be destroyed when some incidents with the first batch were reported. One of the lab technicians was unwilling to see the fox children killed, so she smuggled them out at the cost of her own life. How Rebecca got transferred to the alley is due to a random rift interfering with the escape. She has blocked out most memories of what happened when she was saved from Lone Star due to the trauma involved
