Disposition:

Mystique can be considered both scholarly and adventurous at the same time. Enjoys intellectual pursuits and is a skilled computer hacker. However, she still likes to get directly involved in things and is an excellent thief. She prefers to consider alternative solutions to problems whenever possible and not choosing the most obvious or direct solution to a situation.

Related to this, she does not consider herself to be a true fighter or soldier and prefers to let others do the dirty end of fighting in most cases although she is quite able to take care of herself. She is quite skilled with the pistol for example. One tactic she finds effective as well is to use telekinesis while she is intangible.

One issue she does have is a superiority complex where she considered Psi-Ghosts to be superior to those who she considers to be ‘normals.’ Those who are powerful psychics, she considers with greater respect but there is still a certain amount of aloofness towards them.

Even with her feelings towards those who are not Psi-Ghosts, she can still be friends with them but there are boundaries. Those that she considers friends, even if normal humans, she will help them and care about them. Only interested in truly long term relationships with other Psi-Ghosts however.

While she has no dislike for magic items, she prefers not to use them unless she has to. This is for the simple reason that the magic energies are often easily traced. She might have to work in places where there are individuals who are sensitive to mystic energies and such items would likely give her away.

Character History:

Psi-Ghosts are among some of the best spies and thieves on Rifts Earth. They are in the same class as the Super Spy and far out class the City Rat. Misty’s parents, until they retired, were among the best of their profession. Like most psi-ghosts, they never went by their real names and her father was known by the name Smoke and her mother was know as Glass Ghost before they both retired.

Misty’s father had a reputation as an excellent corporate thief and he became rather rich by working for a variety of competing companies and he traveled around North America. He was very good at hiding any traces of breaking in and in most cases, it would not be discovered until long after he was gone. They would usually discover the information when the other company began using the information that was stolen or one of their own spies discovered information from the thefts. While a scoundrel in many ways, he had two rules that set him apart from most other spies and thieves. The first was that once he accepted a commission from one company, he would not accept counter offers from any other companies. This allowed the companies that hired him to trust him. The second was that he would avoid violence if at all possible and planned out his jobs that way. To protect his identity, he would disguise himself and dress in a dark grey jumpsuit. Only his wife, his children, parents, and an siblings he has know his real name is Jason McLee. For some reason, he has never told his children about their grandparents.

Misty’s mother was raised with a group of other psionics that were in an orphanage in the city of Lazlo. She was told that she had been left on the doorstep of the orphanage and had no known name. She was given the name Beverly by the nurses at the orphanage and was raised by them. They also gave her a high opinion on what was right and wrong. Several of the psionic children, including Misty’s mother, were recruited by the leadership council of the city and were trained to spy on governments, companies, and individual who were considered a danger to the city. How she got her nickname was because she often worked on jobs in high class locations and skyscrapers. While working for Lazlo, she discovered several plots that would have been very damaging to the kingdom of Lazlo. In many ways, working for Lazlo was considered more respectable than being a thief/spy for hire but she was still payed quite well by the council. She could not have been considered truly wealthy but she would have been considered pretty well off.

Well, events conspired for both of them to meet during while they were working on a job. While employed by different organizations, they both were at the same location at the same time. They say that opposites attract and they were attracted to each other on their first meeting. They quickly become lovers and within less than a year, they got married. They both wanted children and they started a family soon after getting hitched. Misty was first born of four children. Misty has two brothers and two sisters. Like their parents, all of the children have the gift of being psi-ghosts themselves. They had plenty of money already saved up so they both retired in the city of Lazlo. It may be that the both have done some work protecting the city of Lazlo but they have never told their children about it. While both of Misty’s parent are wealthy, they lived comfortably but not extravagantly. This was partially so that they would not attract attention but neither of them were extravagant by nature. The children were not coddled but were given love by their parents. The children learned slightly different morals from both of their parents but got training in the use of their Psi-Ghost talents so that they could use them when they were on their own.

All throughout her childhood, Misty loved watching gymnasts and acrobats and wanted to be one. Because of that, she spend a long time learning both of them. Before Misty went through puberty, her hair was a golden blond, but her hair changed after puberty into a whitish blond. She wanted to be able to more than general operation and hacking into computer systems, so she learned computer programing. Knowing that she needed to learn how to defend herself, she learned how to fire an energy pistol, preferring the pistol to larger and heavy rifles. After seeing a gunfighter in an exhibition firing a pistol in both hands, Misty decided the she wanted to learn the same thing. She practiced extensively but eventually mastered the skill of firing a pistol in each hand.

Like some of the more exceptional children of exceptional parents, she wanted to make her own way. This included leaving the city of Lazlo to be further from her parents and traveling around North America. She left with their reluctant blessings and love. She tries to work for the right side when possible, working to save lives but she does want to make some money while she is at it. Like her parents, she avoids violence and has found she rarely has needed it. She general prefers breaking into computer systems from the inside and not actual material theft. She has broken into a few locations and has stolen money and valuables. She broke into a lab that kept very unusual materials and stole for herself a very powerful yet tiny computer, a force field generator belt, and a couple of minor items that came from Atlantis. One of her most recent job was to help rescue a Coalition Special Forces officer that was held just outside of Chi-Town by her own military. She was hired by one of the rival governments because of some very important information that the Coalition Officer knew. She has just visited the city of Kingsdale because it is small and she has heard rumors of some interesting advanced technology in the city.
