Mountain Man A.T.V.:
While the Mountaineer A.T.V. is extremely popular, it does have issues with rolling over at times as a three wheel design. As a result, a number of companies have developed an alternative version of the Mountaineer which is known as the Mountain Man which is a six wheel design. A number of companies which originally produced the Mountaineer have switched over to the Mountain Man design although the original Mountaineer is still produced.
Otherwise, the Mountain Man design is quite similar to the original Mountaineer design. It has a large enclosed cargo bay which can be converted to a number of different functions from acting like a recreation vehicle to being converted over to being a mobile work shop or lab. Some are used to carry cargo and used as mobile ships with large side doors. Other options for the vehicle include external cargo racks and improved communication suites.
As with the original Mountaineer, the Mountaineer is well armored and able to withstand a fair amount of abuse. There is the option of additional armor to the vehicle as well. While armored, it is generally not considered a true combat vehicle however. Some owners do however put additional weaponry on their vehicle to enable them to operate in the role of armored personnel carrier although not recommended. Various missile systems, pulse energy weapons, and rail guns are popular.
While the vehicle has excellent climate controls including air conditioning, the Mountain Man does not have full environmental systems or even N.B.C. equipment. However, while the vehicle cannot be brought up to full life support, there is an upgrade available to bring it up to N.B.C. standards.
Top speed on roads, where there are roads on the Earth after the coming of the Great Cataclysm, is around one hundred and twenty miles an hour. Recommended off road speeds is less however with speeds of around eighty miles per hour considered more or less safe. Even though far less prone to rolling over than the original Mountaineer, this still can be a risk. There is an advanced traction system to enable the vehicle to travel on incredibly rough terrain.
For power systems, there are three popular power systems and a few companies manufacture a fourth power system. There is a simple liquid fueled combustion engine type. It is designed to run on a wide variety of fuels including gasoline and various alcohol fuels. There is also a purely electrical model which uses a massive battery which gives it a similar range as the liquid fueled model. The last popular version is a fusion powered which gives decades of service. While the Mountaineer is listed as being able to run for twenty years between needing to be refueled, ten years is more common.
The final power system, which only a handful of companies manufacture, is a fuel cell system. Fuel cell versions are considered to have a slightly better range and require only hydrogen to power them. The fuel cells operate by pulling the electrons off of an H2 molecule, splitting it into 2H+ molecules and 2 electrons. The electrons pass through the “load” (engines, weapons, avionics, etc.) creating current and powering the systems. Meanwhile, the 2H+ molecules pass from the anode to the cathode through the electrolyte. At the other "end", the electrons then recombine with the 2H+ molecules and Oxygen (from the air) and are release as water from the rear of the vehicle.
Vehicle Type: Three wheeled armored ATV transport vehicle.
Crew: One pilot and can accommodate four passengers comfortably in crew compartment.

Reinforced Crew Compartment: |
60 (Maximum 120.) |
|
[2] Main Body: |
150 (Maximum 300.) |
Notes:
[1] These are small and difficult targets to strike, requiring the attacker to make a “called shot” but even then the attacker is -4 to strike.
[2] Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body will shut the vehicle down completely, making it useless.
Speed:
Ground: Cruising speed on land is 120 mph (193.1 kph) on roads and 80 mph (127.8 kph) off road maximum. The vehicle is designed to traverse virtually all terrain and can climb at up to a 60% grade (40% fully loaded) although at a much slower speed (About 10% of maximum road speed). It can also climb barriers and ford trenches. The vehicle can also handle side slopes of up to 30%.
Maximum Range: With gas or electric, 600 miles (965.6 km), with fuel cells, 800 miles (1,287.5 km), and with fusion, effectively unlimited (10 year duration.)
Statistical Data:
Height: 12.5 feet (3.81 meters).
Width: 8.2 feet (2.50 meters).
Length: 25 feet (7.62 meters).
Weight: 24,500 lbs (11,113.0 kg) not including cargo.
Power Source: Four versions. Nuclear with 10 year fusion reactor, electric with high capacity batteries, conventional liquid fuel that uses various fuels, and fuel cell version that uses hydrogen as a fuel to produce electricity (Only a few companies produce the fusion model.)
Cargo Capacity: Has a large cargo compartment which is 8 feet wide, 8 feet tall, and 14 feet long (2.44 x 2.44 x 4.27 meters.) Can carry up to 6 tons (5.44 metric tons) of cargo in cargo area. Can tow an additional 12 tons (10.89 metric tons.)
There are also various storage areas within the crew compartment which are able to store basic equipment.
Market / Black Market Cost: 65,000 credits for base model (Internal Combustion.)
Electric / Battery power system costs 70,000 credits additional. Nuclear fusion costs 50,000 credits extra. When available, fuel cell versions cost 70,000 credits additional.
N.B.C. Protection costs an additional 25,000 credits. Long Range Communication Suite (100 miles / 161 km) costs 1,000 credits. Weapons: Varies by weapon type.
Additional M.D.C. costs 10,000 for every 30 M.D.C. to main body. Increase doors / crew compartment by 1/5 per 30 M.D.C. increase to main body.
Weapon Systems:
None Standard. Missile launchers, pulse lasers, and rail guns are popular.
Other Equipment:
NBC Protection (Optional): While not full life support, the vehicle can be equipped with protection for the crew from most gas, radiation, and biological attacks.
