Age: 23 years. Race: Human. Sex: Female. P.P.E.: 6.
Disposition:
In many ways, she has rebelled against how she was raised. Women and girls were expected to do as they were told and be meek good girls. Instead, she wants to do what she wants and be boisterous, not the shadow of anybody else. In addition, she has no particular interest in getting a husband, which was one of the main interests of the girls of the village she was born in.
One might expect her to be bitter but instead enjoys herself. Can be a bit on the amoral side and likes to break rules. Still, she does not really take advantage of others but more likes to get into a bit of trouble. Friends are extremely important to her and is extremely loyal to them. Has had quite a share of lovers, both casual and more serious.
Being a mercenary puts ones life on the line and one day expects to be killed but does not mean she not enjoy life. Does actually enjoy battle, makes her feel alive. Even though, she enjoys getting into trouble, understands that one must both follow orders and due your duty to your fellow soldiers.
Over the years, she had been told by a number of people, including mages and psychics, that her unusual dragon shaped birthmark has some special significance. She herself is much more skeptical about it however. Maybe it has some kind of special meaning but she does not see herself as a dragon slayer or really special.

Appearance:
At around five foot eight inches, Ordella is a bit taller than average for a woman but not extremely tall. Has a muscular and athletic built although is still feminine. She is not unattractive either although does not consider herself particular attractive. Her skin is relatively dark Caucasian tone, a bit darker than average for somebody from the northern lands of the Eastern Territory. Her hair is a dark brown although it does have red highlights and she generally keeps her hair in a long braid down to the small of her back. Her eyes are also a dark brown. Has a relatively slender nose but wide lips. As far as cosmetics, she wears a little bit but generally not much, just darkening up her eyes and cheeks.
While usually under clothing, her most unusual feature is a large birthmark above her left breast. Dark brown, it appears to be a dragon with its wings spread. Some who have looked at it have thought it actually is a dragon tattoo.
Does not really like wearing dresses or skirts, probably a reaction from her childhood and trying to distance herself. As a child, she was expected to always wear skirts or dresses. When not in armor, usually wears a simple tunic and legging. Generally prefers blue dyed clothing. Otherwise, does not really like to wear heavier armors and instead prefers to wear studded leather. Like much of her clothing, the armor is dyed blue. Carries her battle axe and a shield generally with a bow on her back.

Ordella’s History:
In the northern lands of the Eastern Territory near the border of the Wolfen Empire, there are a number of
small farming communities. Dues to the constant raiding by wolfens, coyles, orc, ogres, and other races, these
farming communities were often in precarious straights. Ordella’s grandfather was a land owner farmer, reasonably
well to do, in one of these communities. Her mother was the farmer’s youngest daughter and with his eldest son set
to inherit his lands, there were not many prospect for her.
There are a number of fortresses and keeps along the border. In addition, patrols are sent out to keep out
potential invasion. It is often easy for a young farm girl to be swept away by the uniform of a soldier and sweet talk
and vague promises that one might construe as a promise of marriage. Ordella’s mother was one of those, seduced by
a soldier passing through the village who paused for a few days. One wonders if the girl did not see the soldier as a
means to escape her home.
A few days later he departed with vague promises of returning. Now, it is always possible that he was killed
in one of the many raids however it is just as likely that he never had any intention to come back. He did however
leave a parting gift, a swelling belly. The girl hoped the soldier would come back but as the months passed, even she
realized that he was not coming back.
In due course, Ordella was born. The name means “Little Knife” and could have a number of different
meanings. Might mean simply that the baby was the child of a soldier but might also be how her mother was
ostracized afterwards. Most other communities are less judgmental towards such things as this one. Pregnancy
outside of wedlock is considered a dishonor. There was little hope that Ordella’s mother would have any marriage
prospects afterward.
Adding to her mother’s problems, the baby has a strange birth mark, a dragon shape, on her chest above her
left breast. While some suggested that the birth mark was a sign that she would follow an important destiny, others
suggested that it was a mark of evil.
At least neither her father or her brother, when he inherited, turned the girl or her child out but she worked
in the farm just about as a drudge. Especially in later years, her brother’s wife seemed to enjoy the role of pretty
tyrant. Life was not all that much different for the young girl than her mother as she grew up. Was expected to work
from dawn to dusk day in and day out. The girl did however grow up strong and quite tough, getting into a fight with
some of the boys on multiple occasions and giving as good as she got.
When she was just thirteen, Ordella decided to run away. Did not want to be just a drudge for the rest of her
life. There was some faint hope that she might find her father however she knew it was incredibly unlikely. As well,
unless there was some strong resemblance between them, it was almost certain that they would never recognize each
other even if they met. Otherwise, Ordella headed east towards the fortress of Southwatch with few clear goals.
Along the route, met up with a group of mercenaries. Did not really intend to join but somehow found
herself a recruit. her surprise, Ordella found she fit in quite well. Might have been the fact that the company leader
was a woman herself. In addition, around one third of the mercenaries were women as well. Some mercenary
companies are composed almost exclusively of males. A great many mercenaries have run away from home just like
Ordella had, making her not all that unusual. It was around the time of joining the company that she took the name
“Drakemark” from her unusual birthmark. While there was a lot of hard work in the company, the drudgery actually
was far less than under her uncle’s wife.
While a smaller company, it was a good company which the captain genuinely cared about her troops. They
were expected to train extensively. In addition, the company had a number of healers and practitioners of magic. For
a small company, it was considered extremely effective.
Having chopped wood for years at her uncle’s farm, the battle axe felt far more natural than the sword even
though Ordella also learned the sword. In addition, she learned the bow. The company was armed with composite
bows, equal in power the long bow. Prior to joining the company, she could not read or write and knew a bare
smattering of Elven language beyond her native tongue. While it is rare in mercenary companies, the company
captain wanted the soldiers to be able to read and write.
Socially, the company was virtually the opposite of her uncle’s household. The uptightness of her home
always chaffed and the more casual atmosphere of the company, even though still maintaining discipline, allowed her
to blossom. Both had real friends for the first time and even a few lovers. As long as company members were
discrete, the captain did not mind relationship between members.
The company mostly fought battles on the northern borders, hiring their services to the armies stationed up
there in many cases as well as freelancing to deal with raids. One of her worst nightmares was having to return to the
village that she ran away from. The company did end up nearby her birthplace but never actually visited the village.
Ordella quickly made the rank of sergeant in the company. In a battle with a Coyle soldier, she was able to capture a
lesser enchanted battle axe.
While most the troops were far younger, the captain of the company was over forty. A few of the other
officers were in their thirties. While heathy and vigorous, the captain was feeling the years of battle and after just a
few more years decided it was time to retire from active campaigning. The second in command tried to take over but
the company never had the dynamic which it had before under him. Never could manage the troops the way she
could and it was only about six months later that the company fell apart. The first to depart were the specialist, the
mages and the healers. Some of the members of the company joined other companies, some joined the army, and
some decided to go freelance.
Ordella herself decided to go freelance. This included escorting a few merchants but eventually decided to
join up with a group of traveling adventurers if she could. She knew that she might not have access to a healer so
decided to spent most of the gold that she had managed to earn to get an enchanted Blood Stone for healing. Prior to
this, besides her enchanted axe and a few enchanted arrows, she only had a few minor enchanted amulets she had
picked up. It is extremely common for mercenaries to acquire a number of enchanted amulets.
