Ross Aerospace GE-200-RA “Golden Eagle” Combat Exoskeleton:

The Silverhawk Combat Exoskeleton is considered one of the most advanced power armors in the Three Galaxies. A Consortium design, it is operated by a number of other military forces including the Human Alliance and Independent Defense Forces within the Consortium.

A number have ended up in the hands of mercenary groups and militaries outside of the Consortium have managed to get limited numbers of these armors. Still, it is rarely enough to cover demands. As a result, a number of companies have developed “knock off” designs of the Silverhawk.

Some of these are of excellent quality while others are of poor quality. Even the best don’t mount the force field disruptor which is beyond the ability for most companies to duplicate. In addition, there is a lot of variability in the weapon systems mounted on these “knock off” designs.

Ross Aerospace is a relatively small company but is known to manufacture very high quality designs. One of these is the I.C.E. Hyena light fighter. The owners of the company decided to broaden their products with one of these being a “knock off” of the Silverhawk.

The name “Golden Eagle” was chosen for the space exoskeleton because some might take the name to indicate that it is actually superior to the Silverhawk. Some of the marketing also has tried to suggest this. The Silverhawk remains a far more advanced designs but the Golden Eagle is superior to most of the “knock off” designs currently in widespread service.

As of the present time, only relatively limited numbers of the Golden Eagle have been produced. There are designs such as the Stormcrow which have been produced in far larger numbers. Even so, the Golden Eagle design is already becoming popular with the limited supply unable to keep up with demands. As a result, the company is preparing to ramp up production.

In order to develop the Golden Eagle, the engineers at Ross Aerospace managed to acquire multiple Silverhawk armors and took them apart in attempts to copy the various systems. Some like the force field disruptors were a failure. Others, such as most of the weapon systems and the advanced stealth and camouflage systems were more successful.

The engineers destroyed multiple force field disruptors in an attempt to copy the system. In the end, they had to admit defeat. As compensation however, the Golden Eagle mounts an advanced electromagnetic signal jammer. This can be considered a two edged sword because many systems can home in on jamming signals. It is not a full suite jamming system and does nothing to jam gravity based systems.

Unlike most “Knock off” designs, the engineers were able to copy the adaptive camouflage mounted on the Silverhawk. Many other designs, including the Stormcrow, are simply painted dull black to minimize visibility. One main advantage of the adaptive camouflage is that it is effective under multiple conditions.

The engineers at Ross Aerospace were unable to match the power to mass ratio of the Contra-Grav propulsion system. As a result, to give similar acceleration, the flight system had to be corresponding larger than the original system making the Golden Eagle slightly bulkier. In addition, the armor is slightly less maneuverable than the Silverhawk. A pilot will however find themselves comfortable when they switch between the two designs.

In attempting to copy the Multi-Rifle, the engineers were mostly successful. They were not however able to get copy the high intensity laser with quite the range of the original model. With the particle beam, while the range is equal to the one mounted on the Silverhawk, power output is slightly less. The two weapons can be fired as a single extremely powerful blast although their ranges are considerably different. With respect to the grenade launcher, it was decided to use an “off the shelf” gravity grenade launcher.

As with the Silverhawk, the Golden Eagle mounts sixteen mini-missiles with four mounted on each wing. There has been some discussion with regard to potentially increasing the missile payload in later models. Instead of mounting the forearm “Six Shooters,” the Golden Eagle carries a pair of modified “Jackhammer” pistols with greater magazine capacity and extended range.

While the Golden Eagle is not quite as well armored as the Silverhawk, it is better armored than the vast majority of “knock off” designs. A number of owners have already equipped their armors with Naruni force field generators for greater protection. There is discussion in the company whether they should negotiate with Naruni Industries to be able to mount the force field generators in the factory.

This power armor design uses modified starship speed and weapon range rules. See Revised Starship Rules for Phase World / Three Galaxies for more details.

Note: The power system is fusion not anti-matter because the author's opinion is that anti-matter is to dangerous to be used in vehicles that may be used in an atmosphere. If a starship powered by anti-matter was to detonate in an atmosphere it would cause huge planetary damage. At GM option, this can also be applied to all such power armors or this power armor can be changed to anti-matter.

Notes:

[1] Destroying the head of the power armor will eliminate all forms of optical enhancement and sensory systems. The pilot is forced to rely on his own human vision and sensors. Furthermore, all power armor combat bonuses to strike, parry and dodge are lost. More importantly, in the vacuum of space the character will be subject to explosive decompression, dehydration, freezing and asphyxiation. Most alien species will suffer 1D4x10 S.D.C. damage immediately and will die in 1D4 minutes. Note: The head can only be hit when an attacker makes a called shot and even then the attacker is at -4 to strike.

[2] Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body will shut the armor down completely, making it useless. If the main body takes over fifty percent damage, the stealth system will be destroyed.

[3] Destroying the contra-grav propulsion system reduces all the special bonuses given below and prevents the armor from flying. A normal jet propulsion system or jet backpack can replace the contra-grav propulsion system, but it will not have any of the special flight bonuses and its speed will be a fraction of normal (that of the replacement system).

Speed:

Running: 70 mph (112.6 km) maximum. Note that the act of running does tire out the operator, but at 5% normal fatigue rate. If the contra-grav flight system is damage, increase fatigue rate to 10% of normal.

Sublight: Has a special sublight engine that allows the power armor to travel up to 20 percent of the speed of light. Power Armor can accelerate/decelerate at the rate of 1.2 percent of light per melee.

Atmospheric Propulsion: Maximum of Mach 2 (approximately 1,522.6 mph/ 2,450.2 km) in an atmosphere. Can enter an atmosphere because flight system is contra grav.

Range: Effectively Unlimited. The contra-grav propulsion system on the space exoskeleton does not overheat. The only limit is the pilot’s endurance.

Statistical Data:

Height:  9.02 feet (2.75 meters).

Width:   11.32 feet (3.45 meters) including wings and 4.92 feet (1.50 meters) for the chassis of the power armor.

Length:  4.59 feet (1.40 meters) including Contra-Grav flight pack.

Mass/Weight: 1,212.5 lbs (550 kg).

Physical Strength: Equal to a P.S. 45.

Cargo: Effectively None.

Power System: Advanced Fusion, Duration without refueling of 20 years.

Market Cost: Costs an average of around 2.5 million credits. As such, it is one of the more expensive “knock off” models. Presently of limited availability due to company still ramping up production.

Weapon Systems:

  1. One (1) Multi-Rifle: This is a slightly inferior multi-rifle to the one carried on the Silverhawk but mounts a long range HI-Laser and a shorter ranged, but more powerful, particle beam above it. The gravity propelled grenade launcher is an “off the shelf” model although has excellent performance.

Maximum Effective Range: Laser: 16,000 feet (4,880 meters) in an atmosphere and 189.4 miles (304.8 kilometers) in space. Particle Beam Cannon: 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) in an atmosphere and 37.9 miles (61 km) in space. Grenade Launcher: 2,000 feet (610 meters) in an atmosphere and 16,000 feet (4,880 meters) in space.

Mega-Damage: HI-Laser: 2D4x10. Particle Beam Cannon: 3D4x10+20.Both Combined: 5D4x10+20 (Ranges between weapons are very different.) Grenade Launcher: Varies by Grenade Type (K-Hex Fragmentation: 4D6 to a 30 feet [9.1 m] area, K-Hex High Explosive: 6D6 to a 12 ft [3.6 m] area, and K-Hex Armor Piercing: 1D6x10 to a 3 ft [0.9 m] area. Smoke, knock out gas, and other grenades are also available.)

Rare of Fire: Equal to the combined number of hand to hand attacks of the pilot (usually 4-6).

Payload: HI-Laser & Particle Beam Cannon: Effectively Unlimited. Grenade Launcher: 50 Grenades.

  2. Two (2) GR-45-LR “Super Jackhammer” Long Range Gravity Rail Gun Pistols: Similar to the GR-45HP “Jackhammer” but modified for extended range as well as having double the payload. Projectiles are fired at incredible velocities from the gravity rail gun. Weapons are useful against targets which are impervious to energy weapons. Carried on side of armor when not in use. Both may be fired simultaneously with the paired weapon - energy pistols skill.

Maximum Effective Range: 1,600 feet (487.7 meters)in an atmosphere. Range is eight times normal when used in space.

Mega Damage: Single round inflicts 2D6 and a three round burst inflicts 5D6. If the person has paired weapons energy pistols, can do up to 1D6x10 per attack (six rounds total).

Rare of Fire: Equal to the combined number of hand to hand attacks of the pilot (usually 4-6) - Paired weapons energy pistols allows both to be used as a single attack.

Payload: 54 rounds (18 bursts) per magazine. Carries six additional magazines for gravity rail gun pistols as standard.

  3. Sixteen (16) Wing Mini-Missiles: Each wing of the exoskeleton mounts eight mini-missiles. Missiles have a top speed of Mach 10 in an atmosphere and have an acceleration of 2% of light per turn in space. This is slightly faster than any starship except if it is exceeding it maximum safe acceleration. Batteries can launch on multiple targets each at the same time. Mini-Missiles in the Phase World / Three Galaxies setting are normally smart missiles.

Maximum Effective Range: Mini-Missile range is 2 miles (3.2 km) in an atmosphere and 100 miles (161 km) in space.

Mega-Damage: Varies with mini-missile type (See revised Phase World / Three Galaxies missile tables for details.)

Rate of Fire: Can fire mini-missiles one at a time or in volleys of two (2), four (4), eight (8), or sixteen (16) mini-missiles.

Payload: Sixteen (16) mini-missiles total, eight (8) mini-missiles on each wing.

  4. Energy Rifles, Light Rail Guns, and other hand-held weapons can be substituted in an emergency or used as a back-up weapon. Space limitations and the bulk of the armor limit additional rifle weapons to one rifle and one pistol.

  5. Electromagnetic Signal Jammer: The system creates a powerful jamming field with a one mile (1.6 km) radius in an atmosphere and 100 miles (160 km) in space effecting all directions around the power armor.

System is a wide spectrum which jams radars, radios, and most systems based on electromagnetic signals. It can be focused on single bands as well but most electromagnetic systems are frequency hopping. The power armor itself can leave frequencies which it is not jamming in order to use its own systems. The system will jam system in friendly forces as well. Laser communications and light-based sensors are unaffected by the jamming.

Electromagnetic sensor systems will have ranges reduced to 25% of normal and have a -40% penalty to all read sensory roll including the chance of detecting any targets in the area (this includes the power armor carrying the jamming system) of the jamming. In most cases, the system will also jam the equipment used by friendly forces. E.C.M. systems gives an additional +4 to dodge radar guded missiles due to spoofing although some missiles can be set to home on jamming signals.

  6. Stealth Systems: Extremely similar to the system mounted on the Silverhawk exoskeleton. The system masks all heat emissions, giving it a -40% penalty to be detected by thermal sensors and -8 to be targeted by thermal targeting systems. In addition, the Golden Eagle has a general visual stealth system which can change colors to match the background. This system is most effective when the Golden Eagle is not making course alterations or is stationary. Evasive maneuvers or attacks will reveal the armor’s position, although it will still be difficult to detect visually and attack (all attackers are at -1 to strike).

  7. Hand to Hand Combat: Rather than use a weapon, the pilot can engage in mega-damage hand to hand combat. Training between the Silverhawk and the various “knock off” designs is generally considered interchangeable.
