Disposition:

Leah is a bit screwed up after all that has happened to her. She has several reservations about men when before she was quite social and outgoing. While still quite strong of will, there is a fragility about her that did not exist before. Still, it is most likely with time that she will recover almost fully. She does not hate men but just will be much more reserved around them than she had been in the past. Her romantic interests have always been with men although she will have to find one who is patient with her problems. As well, her temper is less certain than it has been in the past.

She has always been a free spirit and always has had more than her fair share of adventuring spirit. In many ways, she did not fit in with her home world because everything is extremely set as far as rules and conformity. Leah has always been a non-conformist to a great degree. This does not mean that she does not value anything. Friends are extremely important to her. Even with her disdain for following the rules, she found that she enjoyed the military.

Appearance:

Leah is fairly tall at around 1.8 meters in height and weighs just under 62 kilograms although part of her mass is a built in sub-dermal armor. She is not built like a body builder but is still quite strong and athletics. Still, she is quite attractive has a nice if slender feminine frame. She has light brown hair, almost blond but not quite, which she keeps quite short. She has grey eyes which are normal soft but penetrate when she is angry. Her skin is a fairly dark tan although still within normal Caucasian skin tones. She does not wear much in the way of makeup although she does not really need it. All members of her home planet’s military receive a small tattoo with a barcode on it and contain full medical files imbedded in a microchip. Only the precise code will cause it to reveal its data or transmit its location.

As far as clothing, she generally prefers simple work jumpsuits or fatigue style uniforms when not in body armor. She has worn body armor for many years in military service so she is completely comfortable in them. In general, she prefers greys, greens, and browns. As well, she likes nothing too flashy either and she does not tend to wear much in the way of jewelry. If one was given as a gift, she might wear it. She never cared too much for dressing up, including dress uniforms, although does like to look fairly need and organized. Still, no one will ever think of her as a stiff crease type and she prefers to be comfortable more than anything else.

Leah’s Background:

Leah was born on the planet of New Athens in the Kramer Star system. The system is not a Utopia world but the standard of living is extremely high. The planet was settled as a constitutional monarchy, there are quite a number throughout the Three Galaxies, but over the last century the monarchy has faded in importance. The system is deep within Consortium controlled space and there has been no real threat within memory.

Many of the colonists had at least some genetic engineering including Leah’s parents. This genetic engineering means that many diseases which effect humans simply do not interact with them. Their body is also far better at clearing out cholesterol than a normal human and even without anti-aging drugs, they have a slightly extending life span. Finally, female fertility is not automatic and requires a hormone injection to become fertile. It does much to control unwanted pregnancy.

One of her parents, her father, works in the planetary shipping industry in a mid level management position while her mother works in the communication industry. Even when she was extremely young, Leah always wanted to join the military. In addition, she was always interested in travel. Her parents were against the idea of her joining the military and did their best to convince her to choose a different career.

Several of her teacher, including one who had served in the Consortium Armed Forces, tried to persuade her into joining the Consortium Military because it would give her far more opportunities. In direct opposition, Her parents began pushing for her to join the system’s self defense forces when they realized that they would not be able to convince her to not join the military. They figured that there would be little danger of combat and she would get bored of it after a few years.

While she did not give in to her parents on not joining the military, they were able to convince her to join the system defense forces instead of the much larger Consortium Armed Forces. In many ways, even though reasonably well trained, the military is almost ceremonial. They are comparatively tiny, consisting of only a pair of cruisers and a small number of smaller vessels.

She joined the army soon after graduating school. There was no marines and she was not really interested in joining the navy. Still, she wanted to be part of the small army forces assigned to one of the cruisers so she pushed extremely hard during training. She scored high marksmanship in energy rifle and managed to get assigned to the cruiser Princess Catherine.

It was only when she reached the ship that she realized what a mistake she made. The ship was well maintained and the sensor system had been overhauled completely. The weapons and the hull were something else and the ship was a centuries old Boadicea class cruiser. The ship was slow and only extremely rarely left the system. That had never been her plan. Still, she served the three years of her enlistment and earned rank of full corporal.

When her three years were up, she decided to get out. She did try to enlist in the Consortium Army but they don’t like personnel from Planetary Defense Forces. It is not impossible but the Consortium puts as many roadblocks in the way as possible. Instead, she decided to travel for a while and joined the crew of a cargo vessel departing the system. With her power armor skills, she could operate a cargo lifter and also was taken on for shipboard security. She had thoughts about eventually joining a mercenary company but never seem to actually make up her mind.

She bounced between ships, traveling where she willed. She got herself sub-dermal armor because in some cases she could not wear body armor. As well, she had a hand blown off in a fire fight and had it replaced by a bionic hand. All troops in the self defense force are fitted with Universal Headjacks but this was further augmented by her;

Eventually, she became a crew on a ship heading for the Riarelle Mining Colony. The crew was not made aware of the problem that the main planet had been taken over by religious extremists was hostile to the mining colony and attempted to seize any ships which attempted to reach the mining colony. The ship was not armed in such a manner to be able to defend itself against four heavy fighters.

The non-human members of the crew were immediately killed and the men in the crew were shipped down to the planet effectively to be used as slave labor. The women though were singled out for special treatment. Basically, they were to be broken so that they can be real women. The religious extremists see women as completely subservient to men. Also, even if the women will not break, perhaps their children can be taught the proper ways.

She was an extremely hard woman to break and was assigned to the station chaplain. He delighted in breaking women. The chaplain raped her repeatedly but somehow she was able to resist. Eventually, a group came in to rescue the prisoners on the station and disable the station so that a follow up wave could seize the planet itself. Finally, she was freed but not without scars both physical and to her psyche.
