T.W. White Hind class Ley Line Schooner / Ocean vessel:

Many creators of Ley Line vessels attempt to built their vessels as close to the original style as possible, building the boats from wood which is then enchanted with the spell “Ironwood.” Probably the most famous, although among the rarest is the “New Ironsides” sail Frigate which is a copy of the U.S.S. Constitution. While many are works of art, the vessels are extremely expensive and intricate to built.

A few techno-wizard builders decided to try a slightly different approach. Instead, the decided to use the high strength composites and alloys which modern ships are usually built using. They are easier and less expensive to build. In addition, they are easier to repair. In other ways they are quite similar, fully rigged for sails. Even though made from high strength composites and alloys, many are still of the finest quality and are works of art. It is possible that they were inspired by the steel sail ships built towards the end of the Nineteenth Century.

One of these is the White Hind class Ley Line Schooner. One of the most beautiful composite and alloy designs, the hulls on most are gleaming white. They are considered Schooners because, even though quite large, they are Schooner rigged as far as their sails. Otherwise, by virtue of size, would likely be considered frigates. While narrower than “New Ironsides,” these ships are actually longer.

A second major difference is that while they have sails, the White Hind mounts a pair of propeller. This allows the boat to travel over water and not be at the mercy of the winds. Under sail, these ships can reach around eight knots. They have a much smaller sail area than New Ironsides. Under power however, they can reach speeds up to around twenty knots. This more conventional means of propulsion uses a pair of techno-wizard converted electric engines. The boat can travel for around a thousand nautical miles between needing to be recharged. This is done simply through the spell of "Lightning Bolt."

Still, these ships send most of their time on Ley Lines. On Ley Lines, they can travel at up to one hundred and fifty miles per hour. The amount of sail does not seem to effect the speed that these ships can travel along Ley Lines. In other ways, the Ley Line flight is similar, they are launched in the air on Ley Lines through the spell of telekinesis and land using the spell of levitate.

The interior of these ships are also designed in a different style. Instead of going as close as possible to the original ships of sail, the style is designed to remind one of that style but still be far more modern. In addition, the crew is quite a bit smaller, around one hundred and forty compared to almost four hundred for the "New Ironsides." As a result, the ships are more comfortable. To further improve the comfort of the ship’s crew, the ships actually have air conditioning and the enchantment of “Sustain” is part of these ships. Usually two of the crew are techno-wizards and two are usually air warlocks.

For weaponry, it was decided to go more modern in style as well. On each side of the ship are three twin Triax flack cannon mounts. These guns are basically identical to the guns carried on the German "Yager" (or Hunter) robot except twin instead of single mounts. Whiles these guns do not inflict as much damage as a full broadside from New Ironsides, they are much longer ranged and are not fixed in position. Instead, they can rotate 180 degrees to either side and elevate to engage aircraft, flying power armors, and even missiles.

In addition, there are four lightning blasters with two on either side. These generally engage smaller targets than the flack cannons. Recharge one a month through a number of spells, they have effective an unlimited payload although much shorter ranged. As with the heavier weaponry, they can also engage flying targets including missiles.

Most of the defensive systems are similar to other Ley Line vessels. The most important is an “Armor of Ithan” force field. It can be activated up to three times per day. In addition, the ship has the enchantment of “Impervious to Energy.” Unlike the “Armor of Ithan” force field, it is powered by magical energy from the crew or the ship’s magic energy battery. While not directly protective, the ship has the enchantment of "Invisibility: Superior." Powered by the same method as the “Impervious to Energy” enchantment. So that the crew can see invisible, the ship is fitted with “See the Invisible” enchantments on its optics.

As far as embarked troops, the "White Hind" carries up to forty marines. Usually this is twenty in mystic power armor and twenty in more conventional body armors. In some cases, all forty can be equipped with mystic power armors. In many cases, no troops will be embarked.

Notes:
[1] Destruction of a mast reduces ocean sailing speed and ley line speed by 1/3 for each mast lost.
[2] Destroying the main body causes the ship to lose structural integrity, causing the ship to sink if in the water. There are enough life preservers and inflatable life boats (one of the few items of technology added) to accommodate everyone on the ship. The ship does have the Techno-Wizard addition of impervious to energy. Specifics are listed in Weapon systems.
[3] As per the spell “Armor of Ithan” - Magic, fire, lightning, and cold all inflict one-half damage. Each activation lasts for 30 minutes.

Speed:
Ocean Surface: Powered: 20 knots (23.0 mph / 37.0 kph) Under Sail: 8 knots or higher depending on the wind (approximately 9.2 miles per hour or 14.8 km per hour)
Ley Lines: 150 mph (240 kph). Requires the Telekinesis Spell (double cost at 16 P.P.E.) or 20 I.S.P. to initiative take off and Telekinesis Spell (double cost at 16 P.P.E.), Levitate Spell (double cost at 10 P.P.E.) or 20 I.S.P. to land the ship. Otherwise, the ship will float away slowly (2 mph) at about 100 feet (30.5 meters) off the ground. The ship can only travel through the air along ley lines and can switch directions at ley line nexus points.
Height: While Flying, maximum of 1000 feet (305 meters) and minimum of 200 feet (61 meters) without landing.
Range: Powered: 1,000 nautical miles (1151.5 miles / 1853.2 km) for each full recharge (requires 30 P.P.E.) Charge a single engine gives a range of 500 nautical miles (575.8 miles / 926.6 km) and costs 15 P.P.E. Under Sail or Ley Line Flying: Effectively Unlimited.
Life support is “Sustain” spell and has effectively virtually unlimited duration (Requires 24 P.P.E. or 48 I.S.P. and has a duration of eight days per activation.) The ship carries three months worth of supplies on board.

Statistical Data:
Length: 248 feet 9 inches (75.82 meters) overall; 235 feet at waterline (71.63 meters); and 232 feet (70.71 meters) at keel.
Beam: 38 feet (11.58 meters)
Draft: 14 feet (4.27 meters)
Displacement: 1,750 tons standard and 1,980 tons fully loaded
Cargo: 400 tons (362.87 metric tons) of nonessential equipment and supplies. Most of the ships spaces are take up by extra ammo, armor, troops, weapons, sails, and other equipment.
Power System: Techno-Wizard Electrical Engine Conversion (Powered by “Call Lightning” spell), 7,200 square feet of sail on three masts, and ley line flight system.
Market Cost: 600 million credits, there is a long waiting period and the cost to get one will often involve many extra costs as well.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

  1. Six (6) Twin Recoilless Anti-Aircraft Flack Cannon Turrets: The cannons are mounted in twins a protective turret on the sides of the ship with each cannon is identical to the TX-862FC with the exception that the weapon's ammunition bins are larger and are mounted in pairs. The cannon mounts can rotate 270 and the barrel can tilt up to 90 degrees. Can be used against both surface targets and aircraft.
Maximum Effective Range: 10,000 feet (3,048 meters).
Mega Damage: Single Round: 4D6 M.D.C., Two Rounds 1D6x10, and Six Rounds 3D6x10. Double weapons damage if the gun is firing both cannons simultaneously (6D6x10)
Rate of Fire:Equal to the gunners combined hand to hand (usually 5 or 6) each (Firing both barrels counts as one attack)
Payload: Total 800 for each barrel (1,600 total for mount). That is 133 volleys of 6 rounds, or 400 two round volleys.
Special Feature: The flack cannon has both and independent power supply and its own laser targeting and radar tracking system (especially useful if radar system is destroyed). Sensor has a range of 11,000 feet (3353 meters). The system can also be set on automatic which gives it +1 to strike and three attacks per melee and will fire two round burst. Gives +2 to strike when fired when properly manned.
  2. Four (4) Heavy Lightning Blasters: Mounted on either side of the vessel are two lightning blasters. Each one is controlled by a gunner and have a 360 degree rotation and 85 degree arc of fire. Additional optics and fire control have been added to enable the system to track and target aircraft and missiles The lightning blasters have a slightly better range and have an unlimited payload compared to hand held lightning blasters. The weapon must be recharged once a month using the spells “Call Lightning”, "Energy Bolt", and 100 P.P.E.
Maximum Effective Range: 4,000 feet (1,220 meters).
Mega Damage: 1D4x10+10 per electrical blaster.
Rate of Fire: Equal to the combined hand to hand attacks of the gunner (usually 4 or 5).
    Payload: Effectively Unlimited.
  3. Techno-Wizard Modifications: The White Hind has the following Techno-Wizard Modifications built into the ship. These require P.P.E. or I.S.P. from the ships crew or P.P.E. battery.
    Special Features:
      Impervious to Energy (8th Level) - 40 P.P.E. or 80 I.S.P.
      Invisibility-Superior (8th Level) - 40 P.P.E. or 80 I.S.P.
      Sustain (8th Level) - 24 P.P.E. or 48 I.S.P.
