Disposition:

Nycia is an interesting combination of studious and wild. As many Elemental Masters of Fire, she likes to dress pretty flamboyantly in reds and golds. Quite fiery in her personality, the element of fire fits her perfectly. One would have trouble seeing her in one of the other elements especially earth or water.

She also loves to have a good time and joy herself. Still, she can be serious and knuckle down for studies. Still, she seems to lack an attribute needed to be a practitioner of wizardry or one of the other mystical arts which studying is primarily how one learns the art.

She is not one to care too much for “following the rules” and one can consider her a free spirit and flighty. Still, she is loyal to those she makes friends with. Especially treasured re her teacher and her parents. She gets mad pretty easily but one cannot consider her to be vindictive when she is angry. She definitely enjoys the company of men although does not seem the type particularly interested in settling down with one. Her attention often drifts away after a while although will just as often drift back after a while. The elementalist has no particular interest in settling down although she tries not to break hearts.

The fiery woman prefers adventuring over working for a military or working directly for an employers. While she will do guard work, she does not particularly like it. Still, she does her share with any group she travels with. She has been known to summon a “Flame Friend” and tap energy from one to summon several others. In addition, she likes to use the spell of “Mini-Fire Balls” because it lasts for multiple rounds and she can continue throwing fire balls. Even though skilled with swords, she prefers to use her bow at range if she is not using her magic.

Nycia’s History:

Nycia was born in the Timero Kingdom in a family of fairly well to do scholars. Quite a bit older than most, they were almost forty when they had the young girl. Why they waited so long is unknown. Might have been that they tried for years without success. They lived in one of the smaller cities of the kingdom, only a little larger than a large town. From her parents, the young girl received what one can only consider an excellent education.

She did have an aptitude for scholarly work but never had that extra which would make her truly excel as a scholar. In addition to being able to read and write quite well, she also had a fair amount of artist talent and was able to both sing and dance reasonably well. It was suggested that she might go into the scholarly pursuits like her parents or might become an artist or a bard.

In personality, she was quite a bit different than her parents. In spite of the fact she had a scholarly gift, she never had the personality of a scholar. She could knuckle down easy enough to study but there was something far more fiery and passionate about her while they were far more laid back and settled. This resulted in some interesting personality clashes from time to time. Even so, there was nothing but love between Nycia and her parents. It was lucky that they did want her to be happy.

Her parents never had that much interest in magic but she was quite different. From an early age, she had a fascination with magic that just seemed to grow. The city, being fairly small, did not have much in the way of practitioners of the arts. Still, she always told her parents that she wanted to practice magic herself.

It was into this that a female fire Elemental Master by the name of Vesunt. Vesunt was pretty young for as accomplished as she was, still not quite thirty years old. Her personality was almost scandalous for the small city, being extremely outgoing. Of course, her good looks did not help with the jealousy of many of the other women of the city.

Even though Vesunt and Nycia’s parents were quite a bit different, they became quick friends. Might have simply been that there were few interested at all in scholarly pursuits in the city. The young girl became quite taken to the Elemental Master and learned everything she could about the art. A relationship also developed with Vesunt treating Nycia almost as one might treat a younger sister.

After much discussion, Vesunt took on Nycia as an apprentice. It took quite a bit of persuasion to convince the girl’s parents to agree to it. One should not consider it easy. Nycia was expected to work as hard under the Elemental Master’s tutelage as she might have under her parents. The elemental art of fire can be quite demanding. For her part, the girl worked hard to learn the art.

Influences of Vesunt could be seen in other areas with the young girl. It likely helped that as she grew older, she was not unattractive herself. Many of the same habits such as never settling with any one single boy were shared by the apprentice. As well, she quickly came to dress similar to her teacher. Most girls Nycia’s age were mostly interested in getting married and starting a family, something she was not particularly interested in.

With both the Elemental Master and her apprentice being both of very vivacious personalities and due to the lack of need for several elemental masters of fire in the city, Nycia decided it might be best if she tried to find her own way. Granted, there were more Elemental Masters of Earth but they helped in large part with keeping the soil around the city fertile.

The first group she joined up with were not what one might consider the best adventurers and in many ways were more comedic than anything. Even though a practitioner of magic, she actually was a better fighter than they were generally. Most were farmers that were trying their hands at being warriors. In fact, most of the area which they were looking for treasure had long been picked and looted. They got themselves into trouble with a group of goblins. While they were able to escape, in large part due to her skill with the bow, they soon went their separate ways with less to show for it than before they started.

After that, she tried her hand at being an escort both with caravan and individuals who needed a guard while traveling. These travels brought her around the Timero Kingdom and into the souther part of the Eastern Territories. While it payed reasonably well, she always chaffed at the restriction of not really having much of a say with what was going on.

As one might expect, she complained a bit more than most around her might like. Luckily, she was skilled enough and, even though fiery, friendly enough that it was able to be tolerated. Still, even she admits that it allowed her to recoup her losses from her first attempt at adventuring. She did stay with this kind of work for longer than one might expect.

One day while escorting a wealthy merchant, they were waylaid by a group of bandits. The leader of the raiders was armed with a pair of enchanted sabres. Nycia was able to, through the use of her elemental magic, blind the leader as well as several other of the attackers. She managed to dispatch the leader while the two other guards, both regular mercenaries, were able to get the rest to flee.

In some cases, the guards were allowed to keep weapons captured from those they fought and she claimed the twin sabres. Before this, she was a skilled swordswoman although never skilled in using two weapons at the same time. Luckily, one of the mercenaries did know how to fight with paired weapons and taught her how to fight in that manner.

It was soon after that when she decided to make another try at adventuring. Managed to get some decent gear by then and had enough saved to give her a reasonable safety margin. In this case, she looked for allies who would be more skilled. One of the mercenaries who worked with her on escorting merchants joined her. The idea would be that the group would head into the Old Kingdom mountains into an area that was thought not to be well explored.

Being a part of who decides where the group goes suited Nycia far better. She was able to show herself as being an extremely valuable member of a team. This was even they had several close calls and major incidents. The lack of a healer for the group was a major problem, something she later rectified for herself by getting an enchanted bloodstone medallion of healing.

Interesting, even though they were able to find a pretty good amount of treasure, they did not find much in the way of useful magic. She did use some of her share to purchase a number of enchanted items although not the generally more powerful items made by alchemists. Instead, she bought amulets made by wizards, enchanted pouches made by combining wizardry and ward magic. Her most significant purchase was a suit of enchanted most hide armor enchanted with weightlessness.

Has gone on several other adventures since then and managed to acquire a number of other magic items although not as many as she might wish to have found.
