Disposition:

From an early age, Hafwen has always been extremely curious and wonder about the world in general. This kind of conflicted against her love of her family and tribe however and it is difficult which might have won if her tribe had not been decimated.

Since her tribe died, in effect friend and companions have become her new tribe. She is extremely loyal to friends, willing to risk her life for them. Hafwen generally makes friends easily even though she does not always understand all of the social nuances of other races. Some have considered her a bit too friendly at times.

While wary of humans, always has been quite curious of them as well, wondering how the two legged creatures lived. Wanted to interact with humans and elves as a two legged creature, both to see how they treat each other and to avoid the prejudice that some humans have towards her race. This is much of the reason why she acquired a ring of metamorphosis.

In general, revenge and vengeance do not interest her and only in extremely cases will she seek vengeance. One case was when her whole tribe was killed. Similarly, if all of her friends were killed, she would likely seek revenge. Does not hold grudges for minor situations and is quite able to forget others around her, even including prejudice against her by humans.

Hafwen’s History:

There are a number of Centaur bands which wander the plains of the Eastern Territory. Hafwen belonged to one of these, one of the smaller tribes of the plains. Her mother was a priestess in the tribe. Youngest born of six children, she was a surprise to her mother when she found out that she had another child. She thought she was a bit old to have any additional children. Hafwen’s closest other sibling was born a decade earlier.

Still, her mother welcomed another child and the new centaur was welcomed into the tribe in general. She grew quickly to be and adventurous and inquisitive child. If it was a bit of a disappointment that Hafwen never showed any real interest in becoming a priestess herself, her mother never showed it. Several of Hafwen’s brothers and sisters had become priests and priestess.

The young girl from a young age did show a keen interest in the long bow and trained long and hard to become a skilled archer. The tribe was always in need of skilled warriors in general and especially archers. In addition, from an early age, Hafwen had an incredible singing voice. Even as a child, her voice could entertain others of the tribe including adults and children alike.

A bit more perplexing both to her mother and other members of her tribe was her early interest in the two legged creatures. Humans and elves always fascinated her. The tribe did have limited contact with humans in order to acquire items that they could not otherwise make being nomadic. Whenever her tribe interacted with two legged creatures, she wanted to meet them. Did have some skills dealing with them such as her mother had taught her the written languages of the elves.

In addition, she yearned to explore lands beyond the range of her tribe, interested in seeing some of the places she had heard about. While not something she had told her mother or even another member of the time, Hafwen often thought about going on a adventure on her own. If events had not intervened, maybe she would have gone off on her own but it is also possible she simply would have stayed with her tribe.

Unfortunately, it was taken out of her hands. Hafwen was scouting and was some distance away when it happened. The tribe was ambushed by a group of orcs lead by a number of ogres. The tribe had taken a slightly different route than the own which Hafwen had been scouting, traveling through some broken terrain, and fell into a trap. The trap was well planned with the orcs outnumbering the centaurs several times. In addition, the broken terrain hampered the centaurs ability to escape the ambush and all but a handful were killed.

After a long day scouting, Hafwen returned to find the dead of her tribe including her mother and most of her brothers and sisters. None of the survivors seemed to know why the orcs and ogres had attacked the tribe. The tribe had little in the way of treasure. Most of the survives went in search of another tribe to join but Hafwen decided differently. She swore revenge against those who had killed her family and friends.

It was not long until she found out that the creatures had attacked others including several human settlements including reasonably fortified ones which were rarely in much danger. Rumor was that one of the ogre was a demon thrall and led the orcs with an iron fist. Another rumor was that the creatures had been outfitted by the wolfen to attack the people of the Eastern Territory, especially humans. Whatever the case, a massive bounty was being offered to eliminate the threat of these creatures.

In addition to various Eastern Territory military forces hunting them, there were a number of adventurers hunting for these creatures. Some had interest in revenge like her while others were more interested in the bounties being offered. Hafwen decided to join one of these groups.

As one might expect, the creatures outnumbered the adventurers even more than they had her tribe. Even so, it gave her a chance for revenge against those who had killed her tribe. Not normally a vengeful person, this simply cried out for revenge to her. In fact, due to her interest in revenge, the leader of the adventuring group initially was reluctant to have her join.

Even though badly outnumbered, the situation was not anything like as one sided as one might thing. One of the members of the group was an incredibly skilled elven sorcerer, several centuries old. In addition, the group included a pair of elemental masters, twin brother and sister named Terran and Skyla. Both the sky and ground would join battle against the creatures. A healer was even recruited to keep the party alive. Interestingly, the leader was not a practitioner of the magic arts himself but a grizzled warrior with decades of experience.

One thing the adventures did lack were skilled archers. The elven sorcerer, likes many of his race, had skill with the bow although preferred his magic. A few others had some indifferent skill with the bow but nothing like the skill with the bow that Hafwen showed. As skilled with the sword as many of the adventurers were, a slugging battle against the creatures would end in disaster. Of course, a single archer against several hundred orcs and dozens of ogres would be of little use.

Of course, the adventurers had developed a plan. The plan was that Hafwen, along with the other archers on horseback, would ambush smaller parties from the larger band. Supporting these ambushes would be elemental fragments, air or earth. These smaller parties would include both foraging groups and scouting parties. Once the numbers had been whittled down a bit, the plan was to attack the main group using lesser elements and elemental fragments to back them up.

Of course, all of these plans involved the adventurers finding the creatures first with several other adventuring groups also pursuing the orcs and ogres. The military groups, although far larger, would not likely to catch the attackers due to not going deep into wild lands. One concern the leader of the band of adventurers has was that one of the other groups would find the band and screw up any potential plans that the party had devised. In the end, the leader of the party was able to make a deal with some of the larger groups of adventurers to work together. This did give needed numbers of additional archers as well as more practitioners of mystical arts.

Eventually, the reinforced group was able to bring the orcs and ogres to ground. Not like the trail of several hundred creatures is hard to follow. The initial ambushes went quite well with a number of the creatures being killed before the climatic battle. The climatic battle however did not quite go as planned. The adventurers did win however a number of orcs were able to escape and far more of the adventurers were killed than anybody expected. One of the ogres was a demon thrall and another was a dark priest. They summoned a number of demons which made the fight far more deadly than it might otherwise have been. Hafwen was badly wounded in the fighting as well.

Still, the adventurers managed to come out victorious and the various groups licked their wounds. Having a healer as part of Hafwen’s party meant that a number were pulled from the brink of death. The young centaur decided to stay with the adventurers for at least a time, using a bit of the gold she managed to acquire to get a few minor magic items including a lesser enchanted pole arm.

Finding out about her curiosity of how the two legged creatures lived, the old Elven wizard gave her a bracelet of transformation which he had possessed for decades but had rarely used. Even though he had centuries left, he felt like it was time to retire from active travels. A few other members of the party left for a variety of reasons but a number remained together for further adventurers. Hafwen was never much interested in the gold or treasures that the others were, more interested in exploring and companionship.

One problem that she found was that it was extremely hard to find armor, more so to have armor that fit both normally when she was a centaur and when she used the ring to transform to appear fully human. When in one of the ports in the western coast of the Easter Territory Land, picked up an enchanted bracer that allows her to create mystical armor along with a bloodstone amulet which magically healed.
