“Ward Scored” Studded Leather of the Shadows
(“Ward Scored” Monster Hide):

Ward scored armor can be made by Ward Masters, also known as Diabolists, working with a wizard of if they are also wizards. These armors tend to be far cheaper than standard sets of enchanted armor although still extremely effective. One of the favorite suits is known as the studded leather of the shadow. The armor is especially popular with thieves and assassins as they often haunt the night. Compared to a similar suit of enchantment armor made by an alchemist, the ward score studded leather armor is only around a quarter of the cost.

To make this armor tougher than it would be using normal animal hides, the skins of various monsters are usually used. Creatures used for the hide used to make the armor include Beast Dragon, Chimera, Peryton, and Manticore. Rarely is dragon hide or the hide of other intelligent creatures used although some have suggested that Night Stalker Dragon hide is sometimes used. The armor is harder to penetrate than normal studded leather and is about twice as tough. The armor is also reinforced and strengthened so it can withstand further damage. Because of the use of exotic hides, the armor is usually repaired through magic.

The armor itself is a full suit of studded leather armor, most suits custom fitted to the wearer of the armor and designed to fit like a second skin to minimize movement penalties. The armor is reinforced with metal studs. They are a flat black which appears to absorb all light. The armor includes a jerkin and leggings. There is also a leather helm. When worn, the only part visible of the wearer will be the face.

The enchantments put of the armor are through a dragon bone plaque with a permanency ward. This makes the plaque indestructible although not the whole armor. Usually this plaque is on the back of the armor. The enchantments include “Weightlessness” and “Shadow Meld.” Both enchantments only effect the armor not the wearer. Still, the wearer of the armor is extremely hard to see in shadows with only their face potentially visible. Without the weightless enchantment, the armor would weigh almost thirty pounds. The armor is enchanted with the color ward of black with is the reason for the light absorbing black color of the armor.
